The impact of climate change on rainfall and
streamflow in the Denmark River catchment

8 Recommendations

To increase confidence in the projected rainfall and streamflow results, improvements could be made to a number of areas in this study.

  1. Previous studies of the south-west of Western Australia have shown that different GCMs project different climate results (Kitsios et al. 2008). Future work should account for this through the assessment and weighting of multiple GCMs.

  2. As knowledge of the parameters describing changes in vegetation and potential evaporation improves, the results should be incorporated into the hydrologic model.

  3. In this study the hydrologic model was calibrated to all available rainfall stations in and around the Denmark River catchment. However, in future studies it may be beneficial to calibrate the hydrologic model with only the rainfall stations used in the statistical downscaling model. This needs further investigation.
