Ecological water requirements and why we need them

Ecological water requirement is the water needed to maintain water dependant values at a LOW level of risk

Fresh and marine water inflows/exchanges influence the composition, abundance, productivity and distribution of estuarine plants and animals

Estuaries, particularly intermittently open-close systems, are vulnerable to changes in freshwater inflows.

As demands for freshwater increase, there is a need to establish environmental water needs to prevent over allocation and protect significant environmental values
